1 Month in the CCM!: September 18, 2013
Dear Family and Friends,
This week was nuts! I love it down here. This weekend was the party for the 15th of September (Mexico's Independence Day). And the one thing I learned is that Mexican's love their country and express their feelings in fireworks and gun shots all night long. Saturday night was "Mexican Night". We crowded into the gymnasium for a 2 hour extravanganza of traditional Mexican dancing, singing, and movies about the country. Sunday night, we crammed into gym once more at nearly midnight (We were allowed to break two mission rules that night: bedtime and tv) and then be the first missionaries to watch tv in the CCM. At midnight, the President of Mexico came on and gave the "Grito", which is part of the Declaration of Independence. We participated by screaming "Viva!" after every name of a revolutionary leader and the name of the country itself.
Our roommates, two natives from Mexico, left yesterday and I'm sad. One of them, Elder Pech speaks English and loves Batman and would constantly walk around the apartment doing a horrible Bane impersonation. I woke up one night at 1 am and he was still repeating, "What will break first, your spirit or your body?". I'm going to miss those too very much. I'll see if I can throw in a picture of them on this email.
The weeks are going faster. We have more lessons to teach and more Spanish study to do each day. For the past two days it has just rained on and on and on. I kind of miss Utah's dry heat, but despite the rain, Mexico City's weather is paradise.
Sorry this email is short, but there isn't much else to talk about.
Love you all,
