Don't Buy Icecream from the Icecream Man...‏

Don't Buy Icecream from the Icecream Man...‏: October 21st, 2014

Dear family and friends,

This week was amazing! I'm having such a lifechanging experience here in the Missouri Independence Mission.

First off, we had a first freezing night--without heat in the house! Ha! I had three shirts and sweats on the whole night Thursday. I thought I was going to be a popsicle in the morning, but I would die before I shared a bed with my companion. The heating is on now, so all is well and broiling in our apartment.

On Tuesday, an investigator, we suspect he's a drug dealer, asked us to baptize him in two days. My oh my, that was a fun conversation. He feels the Spirit when we come around, because he says that we're the only people who build him up in his life and that he feels better when we're around. Sadly, he's going to have to fight some pretty insurmountable odds to be baptized, but hey, with the Lord anything is possible.

A member of the Quorum of the 70, Elder Carlos Godoy, visited our ward yesterday and gave an inspiring talk on being challenged in our lives. He said that the only way to progress in the gospel is to have trials and to be refined by them. After the meeting he asked if I was struggling being a new missionary, being honest, I said yes. He replied, in a thick Brazilian accent, "Good! Then you are being blessed!"

Finally, yesterday we had a extremely powerful lesson with an inactive member who wants to quit drinking alcohol. After he confided in us, I asked him a question and, to my surprise, he responded with "Yes, Sir." I'm a couple years younger than this man--it was disorienting to have him address me like this. There is power in being a missionary. I know this now.

Keep on striving to be a better person each day.

Also, if you're in the ghetto of Kansas City, MO, don't stop an icecream truck for icecream, they usually just sell meth.

Love you all!
