Professional Football and Missionary Work: October 28th, 2014
Dear Family and Friends,
Missionary work is the best!
This last week we've had some crazy experiences. We've been talking with an investigator named Elliot that is atheist. We had a lesson and we explained how he struggles to read the scriptures because they seem like fantasy stories full of impossible experiences and miracles. After an awkward silence that my trainer chose to let me fill, I told Elliot that the scriptures are NUTS. What we go around preaching is NUTS--people in the Americas knew of Jesus Christ, a 14 year old boy saw God and His Beloved Son, and Thomas S. Monson is a modern prophet, but that I know it's true. I explained that I know that it sounds insane, but that I know that it's TRUE. And that's why I'm out here in Missouri for the next two years serving. After my testimony, he said he wanted to pray with us. Chalk that one up on the board! Boo yah!
I went on exchanges with my district leader, Elder Buehner, this week. I lost so much sleep the night before, because I had to be in charge of the area and appointments without my trainer. And guess what? Every appointment fell through, every inactive wasn't home, and I botched three spanish contacts! It was then when at my most down point of the day, that an investigator showed up to the ward Halloween party with here entire family. The Lord showed some tender mercy that day.
This last week we had Stake Conference and Elder Robins from the Quorum of the 70 came and spoke in the Independence Stake Center. The Lord has some incredible servants.
He explained something mindblowing about love. He works in the department that deals with divorce within the Chruch and said to never use the phrase "We fell out of love" in your lives. Love is a choice, a decision, a commandment. You can't fall out of kindness. Love is an action and process that we must constantly have. Love is work. Remember, love one another!
My advice this week is to tell your parents, spouse, siblings, and friends that you love them. Because we can never say it enough.
Last note, please pray that the Kansas City Chiefs lose a game so that people will start meeting with us on the weekends again. They're messing with the missionary work out here.
Mucho amor,
Elder Hart
